Framed Vintage Transportation Wall Art
Advancements in transportation have long coincided with man’s desire to create and to travel. And as mankind has continually striven for new ways to travel—by train, or plane, or automobile, or bicycle – these achievements have gone hand in hand with art, culture, and history. Framed vintage transportation posters serve as a reflection on these moments in history, and the intense cultural fascination with the increasing exoticism of a world that became more and more widely available with the advent of transportation technology and advancements in travel.
High – speed trains evidently held an intense fascination for people as they developed further. As can be seen in framed vintage transportation posters such as “Midnight Zephyr 2000” and “London – Paris Overnight Express”, the speed and raw power of these advanced locomotives was seen as a thing of beauty, prestige, and style. Only the elite could afford or deserve to travel with such distinction, and the mystique and prestige of this highly glamourized method of transportation was the fuel for many artistic renderings.
With airplanes, suddenly international travel became a possibility, too, where it wasn’t before. The seemingly magical ability to be on different sides of the ocean within a matter of hours was an incredible revolution. A framed vintage transportation poster entitled “Miami – Cuba” by David Grandin illustrates the exoticism of transoceanic flight.
Even without the potential for mass transportation in a commercial venue, racecars rapidly became another hugely popular subject choice for art, discussion, and even fashion, as the trendy European styles associated with Grand Prix racers came into vogue. “Grand Prix Monaco 30 Mai 1965” is a framed vintage transportation poster that displays one of these elegant racecars in the context of the cityscape.
