Félix Vallotton (Born in 1865) was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. He became interested in portrait painting in his early years. He was known for his fine paintings and engravings and established a reputation for his quality products. Vallotton was a member the Nabis (Prophets”) group who combined the new avant-garde methods with Post-Impressionist techniques and style at the end of the 19th century. An important highlight in his career was when he exhibited more than 10 of his paintings in Vienna in early1903. This won him praise from Gustav Klimt and Ferdinand Hodler. About six years later, he participated with Bonnard, Vuillard and others in the foundation of the Ranson Academy. Even though he was a member of the Nabis group, he never managed to reach the same level of status as Bonnard Pierre who was the leader of the group. Rembrandt and Jean-François Millet inspired two of his etchings. Vallotton produced his first woodcuts in 1891, and presented 10 paintings in his first appearance at the Salon. Around this time, along with Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, and Paul Sérusier, he was initiated into the Nabis. His art was a great source of inspiration to the upcoming artists of his time. Even today, many upcoming artists get inspiration from his art. They are mainly availed as ready to hang Félix Vallotton art – though there are other finishing options and even online versions of his art. The name Vallotton is regular in art auctions and his pieces of art are exhibited in most galleries and museums of good reputation.
