Nancy Shumaker has been drawing and painting as long as she can remember. She was lucky to have a father who was also and professional artist. It was her father who encouraged and gave her private instructions in art. She went ahead obtained a degree in art and this has been followed by several years of creating and exhibiting her work. Her paintings are quite captivating and truly reflect the beauty of nature. Her passion for painting has made her to believe that every image has the potential to tell a story, and that every image has a message that it delivers to the viewer. Nancy’s style reveals a strong influence of her childhood experiences. She paints in watercolor and the paintings begin as freehand pencil sketches inspired by the nearly 350 species of birds and the abundant wildflowers which inhabit the northwestern Pennsylvania’ Lake Erie shoreline. Using hairline brushstrokes, she creates the detailed colors and textures required to depict animal fur, leaf veining or feather vermiculation. Her images look real, just competing with photographs of the same subjects. Her paintings are given added intensity because she uses layers of color to achieve dimension and depth. Smaller pieces require several days of concentrated effort while major paintings may require months of work from composition to completion. Framed Nancy Shumaker art are today selling in large numbers because of their quality and beauty. Nancy has been an exhibitor at the Sugarloaf Mountain Craft Festivals since its inception. She has had her work published worldwide by a leading publishing company called Wild Apple Graphics.
