Carol Joy Shannon is a painter based in Raleigh. Her work has been recognized in many awards and commissions, corporate purchases and juried shows. Carol’s work has been shown at numerous local exhibitions in places such as Raleigh Art Commission’s Miriam Preston Block Gallery, the United Arts Council of Raleigh, Lee Hansley Gallery, the Exchange Gallery, Page Walker Arts Center, 311 West Martin Gallery, the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, Davidson College, and Visual Art Exchange, the Clayton Arts Center, the North Carolina Museum of Art, etc. Her work is in private and public collections throughout the Brazil, Europe and the United States. She works as a full time artist from her private studio in the Lowcountry in South Carolina. Her body of work is geometric cityscapes, architectural abstracts and three-dimensional wall art featuring the same geometric approach to abstract and landscape. She attended critiques with Lope Max Diaz, Ben Williams and Bob Rankin. She has studied in specialty classes and has also had the good fortune to work alongside accomplished artists (Diane Fiessal, Shaun Richards, and Alberto Ortega Rodas. She was lucky to be mentored by Rachel Herrick, Judy Jones, Sarah Powers and other seasoned art professionals. Her art is recognized locally for her signature style of careful line detail intersected with large blocks of color and the suggestion of architecture.
