Artist Dominique Samyn was born in Flanders, Belgium. She’s an artist who’s always looking for the surprise, the unexpected, that makes her viewers wonder. Dominique loved art since her childhood, so she moved to Washington DC area and enrolled at the Corcoran College of Fine Arts and studied art. She had an art studio at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria and in Virginia. She worked and showed in Lima, Peru for four years from 2000 to 2003. Dominique had numerous awards and shows in the Washington DC area, at the East Coast, Europe and South America. Since 2005 Dominique has taken up a new challenge in art living on an adobe ranch, south of Santa Fe, totally off the grid. Her art is influenced by the Cobra movement which is known for their unrestrained expressionism. The artist focuses on three elements: surprise, color and energy. These have made her art to be very attractive, especially the framed Dominique Samyn art. To her, each painting is an adventure. Her art is also influenced by her horses, mules and donkeys; the starry nights; junipers, tumble weed; the smell of blooming Russian salt cedar and olive trees; coyote fences; the dryness of the wind; the smell of the desert after the rain and the rainbow; the color of crisp air; arrow heads; wild desert flowers; adobe, sand, earth, mud, dirt; the shades of sand; curtains of yellow chamisa; the purple of blooming sage brush; and last but not least, the sky in all shades of blue, turquoise, pink and purple. She paints what she loves.
