Karen Deans is inspired by people who work hard, have the courage to follow their passion, and never give up. She’s always loved to draw and write since she was a child. She started her writing career as a journalist. She’s the author of two picture books both of which were published by Holiday House. Both books feature women who became superstars in their respective fields by defying gender and racial discrimination. In addition to writing for children, she also paints for them. She has worked for Adventure Theatre in Glen Echo, Maryland as the head scenic painter. This work has taken her to Broadway, as set painter for a musical adaptation of Three Little Birds, the children's book based on the music of Bob Marley. Karen is also the owner of an art business, WOODEN TILE, which sells in stores across the country and also sells online. She is a member of the SCBWI and the Children's Book Guild of Washington, DC. The artist has instructed children in the craft of storytelling through painting, drawing, and writing. She’s now a mother of three grown children, and she lives with her husband and the children. Her art, especially the framed Karen Deans art, are in many collection all over the world. Karen’s art has been to several exhibitions and shows where they have received positive criticism from many professional art critics. This has made her art to be very popular. She yearns for knowledge and continues to associate with fellow artists to learn from them.
