Framed Mexican Art
Mexican art was developing throughout its history and was differentiating during various eras. One of the historic art periods was Mesoamerican era, and it took place before the Spanish conquest of Aztecs. That period lasted for about 3000 years.
The themes in this period were mostly related to religion and upper class. Period of colonial art, the time when the Mexican territory was under the Spanish influence, lasted for about 300 years and in it the art was evolving more towards the European style.
The period after the colonial art era had artists that were striving to make Mexico’s art different from its style in the past. The modern era for art in Mexico was clearly distinguished by an increasing number of muralists. In this era, Frida Kahlo, the wife of a famous artist Diego Rivera, was also popular, even though she was painting on canvas while the murals were widely popular. Her work is presenting Mexican folk culture and a few self-portraits by which she is known for.
One of the festivals in Mexico that also influenced its culture and art in a wide array is the Day of the Dead. The art related to this festival depicts skeletal faces surrounded by different colors in different settings. This style was created by Jose Guadalupe Posada with an image that was considered a parody of the Mexican upper-class female. The idea of that festival is the skull, which is worn as a mask and made out of chocolate or sugar to be gifted to both living and the dead.
If you want to feel the culture of Mexico and its traditions in the comfort of your own home, a framed Mexican art print is the right thing for your living space.
