Framed Mayan Artwork
Mayan art is related to Ancient Maya civilization that was inhabited on the territory of southeastern Mexico and other nearby countries. Mayan art lasted until 16th century, when its cultural heritage was destroyed.
It had a lot different items that were created through time and those included: stone sculptures of different shapes and sizes, wood and wall carvings, murals, ceramic items and other sculpted materials.
The ceramic items made for Mayan nobility were often used as a currency, and were also taken to the grave together with rich Mayan nobles, because a quality made ceramic work presented a high social status in the Mayan society. Also, wall of many buildings were carved with reliefs that depicted Mayan culture. The reliefs could cover entire buildings, with large faces presented on them. Theme of carvings mostly included four Mayan rulers and four different animals, and they were all related to the symbolism of mountains.
Mayan civilization had a lot of sculptures and impressive architectural structures. One of the most recognizable architectural achievement of the Ancient Mayas was a large pyramid at Chichen Itza. The cities of Mayan civilizations had special places for their royal families with impressive plazas, steep stairs and pyramids near them. Around the special places, there were homes of nobles, small temples and houses of regular people around them.
The pyramid were characterized by burial grounds inside them, and sacred places on top them. They also had different types of statues, which included: block statues, doorways, altars and artistic stairways.
