Framed Vintage Bike Posters
Framed vintage cycling posters feature a wide selection of artwork, from advertisements, to photographs, to paintings. Some pieces depict mountain bikes, while others portray unicycles in daring circus acts. There are also pictures of vintage bicycles, and still others of ads for cycling races.
“Ride a Stearns Bicycle” is an example of a popular framed vintage cycling art advertisement. The ad shows a blonde-haired woman wearing a white hat, blouse, and gloves, as well as a gray patterned skirt and gray stockings. She has her feet propped up on the front tire of the mustard yellow bicycle she is steering. To the side read the words “Ride a STEARNS and be content.” Another advertisement, “Redbook II, June 1935” by artist Hearst, is made to look like a vintage cover of Redbook magazine. The print features a brunette woman with red lipstick smiling in a yellow polo shirt and royal blue skort as she rides a bicycle.
Framed vintage cycling artwork by artist Karl Jayne are actually collages of close-up photographs of different vintage bicycles. “Panther,” for instance, is a mashup of four parts of a Panther bike: the bike’s logo near the tire, both handlebars, and a shifting gear. Artist Jennifer Goldberger showcases vintage cycles in her art pieces, too, but in a much different way than Jayne does. Goldberger paints each classic bicycle from the side, giving viewers a picture of the bicycle as a whole. “Blue Chantilly,” for example, shows a bright blue Chantilly bike in extreme detail, printed against a plain white background to make the image pop.
Cycling art, with its vast array of retro bicycles and vintage photographs and advertisements, is one category of artwork that is sure to set any art lover’s heart spinning.
