Framed Vintage Caribbean Art
The Caribbean – few names stir up such instantaneous imagery of vibrant landscapes, exotic culture, blissful tropical days and nights, and breathtaking atmosphere. Even for those who have never before visited the Caribbean, the mental picture is a powerful one. Perhaps this explains why, then, framed vintage Caribbean art pieces are so charmingly popular among tourists and non – travelers alike. The quaint flair of antique advertisements coupled with the natural tropical charisma of the islands themselves makes for a striking combination.
“Caribbean” by Ayes is one such example of a framed vintage Caribbean poster with the undeniable charm of the tropics. It features a beautiful woman decked out in the bold, bright colors so often associated with island culture. The woman seems to be in the midst of executing a lively dance step, skirts flaring and her dazzling carefree smile flashing brightly to the world. It’s apparent that this poster was designed to charm the viewer and compel them to consider the Caribbean as a possible vacation destination.
A similar framed vintage Caribbean art is “Jamaica” by Ignacio Zabaleta. Though no beautiful woman is present here, the bright seashell resting on golden sands in front of an azure sea of gentle waves is a powerfully tantalizing image. The scene seems to promise more of the same in Jamaica, if only the viewer were able to chance a visit there…
By comparison, other posters are much more tame. “Golden Crown Inn” and “Isle del Sol – Mini,” both by Catherine Jones, feature significantly more understated illustrations framed by subdued backgrounds and rendered in realistic, softer shades. However, the scenes they promise are no less gorgeous.
