Framed Funny Food Posters
The food we eat has been a subject of art deep into our history, a part of our everyday lives it has always taken focus. While the artists of our past have captured the simplicity and sincerity of food , more modern artists are playing with our everyday perceptions to create framed funny food art that gives each fruit and vegetable a more human personality and can give us all a giggle.
Michael Goddard’s work frequently features those foods found in cocktails, the olive being a common character in his framed funny food artwork. In the piece “T’d Off” one olive, using a golf club, has hit another olive which has landed ‘in the drink’, a tall martini glass in this case. While “Last Crawl” depicts how an olive might stumble around at the end of the night after those martinis.
Greg Brown prefers to use word play in his framed funny food graphics, such as “Salad Bar” which instead of being a buffet filled with vegetables is actually vegetables sitting around a croutons box and drinking alcohol. Similarly his piece “Club Veg” involves vegetables in and around the kitchen sink, which they are treating as a pool. Another fun word play is in the piece “Bananappeal” in which two bananas are peeling, or undressing, each other.
In his framed funny food cartoons the artist Todd Goldman also plays with words, however, he plays with a lot of common expressions and euphemisms. The artwork “Small Fry” is literally a small serving of French fries, the piece “Miso Hot!” is a bowl of hot miso soup, and the piece “One Tough Cookie” shows an angry cookie, probably because someone has taken a bite out of him. Once food was such a privilege and was treated so seriously, now it is plentiful and treated with fun and hilarity.
