Framed Vintage Football Art
Few sports have as dedicated and intensely loyal a following as American – style football. The displays of sheer raw power and speed colliding with tactical strategy and team play tend to draw in even the least athletically – inclined and make football games nearly nationwide holidays every year.
Framed vintage football posters capture something of this magic in a way that only artwork can, melding the energy and force of football with the aesthetic appeal of timeless vintage artwork and photography.
Famed illustrator Norman Rockwell often incorporated aspects of popular culture into his works, and as a result created several pieces of framed vintage football poster art. His “First Down” captures a group of schoolboys mid – tackle, resulting in a comical yet endearing action shot that aims to immortalize the rowdy fun and fast – paced mayhem of pick – up football games, a schoolyard experience nearly everyone can relate to.
John Butler, an American painter with works in a wide variety of styles, created a series of framed vintage football posters as a part of his “Vintage Sports” collection. “Vintage Sports III” through “Vintage Sports V” all feature old-fashioned football players in various actions of the game, showcasing the American pastime with nostalgic appeal.
Actual true – to – life photographs of the sport and its history are wildly popular as well. Who wouldn’t want to see the career of Vince Lombardi captured on canvas? Or marvel at the form of Johnny Unitas mid – pass? Thanks to sports photographers throughout the ages, we have another form of art at our fingertips today—the mementos of the men who made the game what it has become.
