Framed WWI Posters

Two major alliances fought each other in the first world war, with the United Kingdom, Russian Empire and France on one side fighting the Central Powers made of Austria-Hungary and Germany. Japan, Italy and eventually United States joined the Triple Entente while Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire entered the war for the Central Powers. More than 60 million people were involved in what was at the time the largest war in human history, something emphasized by the framed World War I posters.

After the assassination of Franz Ferdinand the Archduke of Austria, the Central Powers declared war to the kingdom of Serbia and this is how the First World War began. The Allies declared war and for the next three years, bloody battles were fought on both the Eastern and the Western front, with the latter being the stage of the fiercest fights. Framed World War I posters focus on the stalemate, but also the sweeping victories of the Western allies in 1918 that rendered the German victory over Russia virtually useless. The balance was tipped in their favor of the United States entered the war in 1917.
