Framed Storm Art
Terrifying and relaxing at the same time, rain storms are a very popular topic for art. It can be interpreted in many ways, yet they’re all so beautiful. From ships at sea to historical scenes, these artists have found lovely ways to capture the majesty of a rain storm on a canvas.
A ship at sea caught in the midst of a storm with no way out. This is what Rembrandt van Rijn showed us in his framed storm art piece “Storm on the Sea of Galilee”. His use of blending created the colors of a true stormy sky. The smokiness of the clouds make you believe that it is hard to steer the ship to safety. Will the ship capsize, or are there mythological sirens pulling the ship to its doom?
Lorraine Christie took an everyday approach to her framed storm image. On their normal commute, people rush to their destination, umbrellas in hand, as the rain falls from the sky. This piece is titled “My Complex Heart”. Jean Beraud took this same approach in “Boulevard Poissonniere in the Rain”. In this image, we can even see some children playing in the rain. I almost want to see Gene Kelly swinging off a lamppost in his classic way.
Even though it may be terrifying to be through a storm, they can also be relaxing. Take Moises Levy’s framed storm piece “Storm”. This image depicts a storm rolling in on a calm beach with a chair sitting on the sand. How relaxing it must be to watch the clouds roll in slowly.
