Anders Zorn (Born 1860) was one of the internationally best known artists from Sweden. He was raised by his grandparents and he was sent to a school in Enköping at the age of twelve. When he was still very young, he showed an unusual attention artistic and ability was drawn to the human figures and horses he used to carve in wood. At the age of fifteen he joined the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. Zorn had planned to become a sculptor but soon realized that he was not getting the satisfaction he required so he resorted to painting and chose water colors to be his main technique. This technique was rather uncommon at the time but he practiced it until around 1887. Zorn went abroad in the August of 1881 to try to earn enough money to support a family and also to study. He spent the next four years mostly in Spain and England, but during the summers he was always at home, in Dalarö and in Mora. During these years Zorn’s style matured and his technique became surer. Zorn began to study the appearance of water, how its surface reflected and fluctuated. Zorn got married to Emma Lamm in the autumn of 1885. He spent the following eleven years mostly away from home, first in England and later in Paris, but he always came back to Sweden during the summers. His wife’s critical analysis of his work and encouragement played a very important role in his artistic growth. Currently, there’s great demand for framed Anders Zorn art from many discerning collectors.
