Debra Van Swearingen has loved photography since her father gave her a Kodak instamatic when she was at the age of 11. She loved the camera and used it to take photographs of anything she could come across. She also decided to learn more about photography and studied the works of artists such as Georgia O’Keefe, Margaret Bourke-White and Ansel Adams. These artists and many contemporary photographers of today are her influencers. Debra has more than 30 years of experience in photography. During the course of her work, she has studied various processes such as hand painted & digital capture, Polaroid manipulation, Polaroid transfer, and black & white. Debra’s aim is to continue to provide quality photographs that provoke emotion within the viewer. She attended the University of Oklahoma. She has also pursued photography in the evenings at the Oklahoma School of Photography, and after her graduation, she worked for some time in the Department of Defense in contracting. Unfortunately, Debra was diagnosed with cancer, and after two years of remediation, she decided to make a profession out of photography which was her passion. In 1997, she decided to establish a studio in Oklahoma City in the Paseo Arts District where she practices her art. She has worked extremely hard and has become an award-winning photographer in the field of photographic arts. Today, framed Debra Van Swearingen art are in great demand all over the world. Debra prefers to work with natural light and she derives her subjects from landscapes, still life’s and botanical and animal images.
