Richard Van Genderen (Born 1948) was born of a Dutch/Indonesian father and an American mother. His mother was an American Red Cross nurse while his father was a World War II test pilot. Van Genderen grew up in Africa and has been strongly influenced by his experiences in Africa. The core of his artistic vision has been shaped by the mysteries of his native landscape. He hopes to impart some of the profound wonder and joy he sees in God's creation of the natural world which human beings inhabit and interact in. Though a realist and traditionalist in his techniques, his paintings are conceptually intriguing and finely crafted. His pictures provide an air of mystery and reflect a sense of magic. His artistic life evolved from Africa’s wild plains. His encounter with dangerous reptiles and animals challenged his survival instincts on his daily wanderings in the bush country. Van Genderen moved to Britain where he attended a British boarding school in Bulawayo. 18 years later following his graduation, he fulfilled his dream of immigrating to America. Van Genderen flew to California to continue with further studies. After college he worked on top secret research and development projects within the aerospace industry. After working in this industry for some years, Van Genderen boarded a passenger ship and traveled to Europe. It was in Europe that he immersed himself daily in, reading about every school of art and every artist while practicing the craft of drawing diligently. He produces art in a variety of finishing options, the most popular being the ready to hang framed Richard Van Genderen art which are today found in many corporate and private collections.
