Born in Sacramento, California Rebecca Swanson moved east to Ohio when she was 4 years old. Here, she spent time with her grandmother who was a chine painter. She learnt a lot from her grandmother watching her paint flowers on plates and vases and then imitating her in her own childlike way. Rebecca also spent time with her mother who taught her to appreciate the beauty of nature. Her mother was an avid gardener. She moved to New York City after graduating from The Cleveland Institute of Art. There, she worked as a Print Stylist and Textile Designer, primarily styling and painting floral prints for lingerie and swimwear. She also photographed flowers in botanical gardens as a creative outlet, and printed black-and-white silver gelatin prints in the darkroom. The advent of digital technology changed the way the artist worked. She used her computer as her darkroom. Computers made her work easier and improved the quality of her work. She takes photographs in botanical gardens and while in her studio, she creates images that integrate photography and the fine art of painting. Her art is found in numerous private and corporate collections including The Ontological Museum, Amelia Island Omni Hotel, Hudson Valley Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, Atlanta -Buckshead St. Regis Hotel, The Buckhead Marriott, Banana Republic Stores, Harry Ransom Research Center, among others. She produces art mainly as framed Rebecca Swanson; though there are many other finishing options that clients can choose from. She has been exhibiting her artwork since 1995. Her art adorn the walls of many guest rooms in Atlanta.
