Robert Striffolino (Born in 1950) was born in New York City and was raised on Long Island. From his childhood, Striffolino could draw spontaneously with extraordinary skill, but he never took a formal art class. He had feeling that his art was so personal he could not allow anyone, not even teachers, to interfere with his art. When he joined Ohio University, he majored in architecture. After his graduation he was hired to work as an architect by the City of Cincinnati. However, he began to feel increasing frustration over a career and life too distant from the art he loves, this despite the fact that she was getting professional recognition and was earning good commissions. Come 1978, he decided to leave his job as an architect to embark on what he has since called his love. He decided that he wanted to travel for as long as he needed to re-establish something in his soul, something he felt he had gotten away from. His journey took 7 months beginning from the Great Smoky Mountains. He then moved along the Gulf Coast, across Texas to New Mexico, and then through the Rocky Mountains north into Canada, and eventually across the Pacific and finally down the California coast. While camping in California he made the decision to settle down and paint seriously. Immediately thereafter he moved permanently to northern New Mexico, where he resides and works to date. He finds joy and inspiration in the more subtle details of Nature. This can clearly be seen in the framed Robert Striffolino art.
