Born in La Jolla, California, JM Steele has been a great painter whose work evokes richness reminiscent of an old world era. She studied under renowned painters Capella, Wolf Kahn, Sebastian and Perrietta Hester. Her style of painting is referred to as Impressionistic Luminism. She tries to incorporate a luminous inner glow in each of her paintings. JM moves from dark to light within each piece to create a field of depth and mystery. She wants her work to appeal to the viewers’ emotions and memories. JM achieves atmospheric effects by careful gradation of tone with no sign of brushwork. She seeks to incorporate moody tones with the atmospheric effects along with the fluid and lively brushstrokes inspired by the Impressionists. Her oldest sister is also a painter. When she was young, her sister often took her to art class where she posed and took in the surroundings of the studio - this got her hooked on oil painting. Some of her earliest and best memories are her drawings and paintings she did at a young age. She still keeps them and they are a great source of inspiration to her. She has lived throughout the West and focuses her work on the Western landscape. She uses numerous layers of paint on wood panels and canvas enhanced by a high varnish finish which makes the oil surface to look bright. Her style creates a quality that looks like a jewel. She enhances it at times with gold leaf which she applies to the painting surface. Framed JM Steele art are in great demand due to their high quality.
