Sharyn Sowell Art

Sharyn Sowell is a mixed media artist who loves old printing presses, scissors, and paper. She uses all three to design beautiful hand-cut paper that is sold as original wall art and used as a basis for posters, greeting cards, stationery, and all sorts of other interesting products from garden gates to fabric, stickers and dinnerware. She cuts paper freehand and uses it for all kinds of interesting things- garden gates, framed artwork, candles, greeting cards and stationery, and more. She also prints her own work and reproduces vintage pieces on an antique printing press in her studio. Sharyn started cutting paper when she needed to amuse her two playful toddler sons in a rowboat on an afternoon fishing trip. She had no idea that it would turn into such a huge part of her life. She started small, with just the pair of scissors from her mother’s kitchen junk drawer and any paper to be tossed in the trash- magazines, old phone books, and letters; her art grew from there. Sharyn has been willing to take more risks than most artists, and to work killer hours to achieve her goals. She likes to think that she has a huge amount of determination and stamina but maybe the truth is that she’s just very stubborn! Sharyn has a degree in marketing but she says the best education she got was the hours she worked for her father, a wonderful businessman who believed in the strictest business ethics ever. Today, framed Sharyn Sowell art are much sought after by many collectors.
