Nicolas Poussin (June 15, 1594 – November 19, 1665) was a renowned painter who built his name as a classical French Baroque artist. His artistic works are recognizable for their clarity and use of lines over color, giving clear outlines of his subjects. Poussin moved to Rome in 1624, spending most of his life there. His artwork pieces were influenced by artists such as Titian and Raphael, depicting Venetian art of the 16th century. Poussin study of antique remains and his appreciation of Raphael’s creative works also helped him develop his style. He liked reading books by old writers and often wanted to create art that represented scenes from such books. Most of the easel works he created for private patrons performed well. He later worked for Louis XIII for 2 years, creating larger works, but these weren't successful. He worked in both Rome and Paris and created different works for diverse commissions. Poussin's artistic pieces are mainly characterized with themes of death and tragedy. He therefore tried to always display the most basic reactions and emotions of his subjects in a more generalized approach. Poussin remains a respected figure in landscape art, with most of his landscapes having foreground figures. He later transformed into creating art, with the landscape being his primary focus, although a number of them still contained figures. Some of his best landscape figures are "Landscape with St. John on Patmos" and "Landscape with a Roman Road." Poussin’s works are widely collected, with his finest being at the Louvre in Paris while others are in the National Gallery in London; the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg; and Museo del Prado, Madrid. Nicolas Poussin framed art are available in galleries and are provided ready for the wall.
