J. Parry (Born in 1744 – died in 1826) was an engraver and painter from Liverpool in 1744. His father was a Welsh master pilot. Parry was apprenticed to a house and ship painter, but devoted much of his leisure time to the study of art. His passion for art was very strong and he could not imagine doing anything different. In 1790 Parry moved to Manchester where he began serious work of art and became known as “Father of Art.” He was also a great painter portrait and even etched one of portrait of himself. While under apprenticeship, he found many patrons there who appreciated his work. So he managed to paint many scenes of everyday life in the city. One of his outstanding works is “The Old Market and Shambles at Manchester” which made him to earn a lot of respect from his peers. He has another work titled “Eccles Wake” which contains 200 figures which are all different studies from nature. He had three sons David Parry, James Parry and Charles Parry. David Parry became a painter after studying in the studio of his father. James Parry was also an artist who exhibited in Manchester. He also produced many Manchester scenes just like his father. Charles Parry was an amateur painter who painted his landscapes in oil. Even after his death, Parry’s art still cause a lot of excitement among collectors, especially those who love landscapes. The framed J. Parry art are doing very well in the market today.
