Mark Missman was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He was interested in art at a tender age and pent many hours throughout his youth studying the painting techniques of the masters from museums. His first taste of Realism came when he was taught to draw in perspective in the 3rd grade. That’s when his artistic passion was awakened and his destiny as an artist became very apparent. The quality of his art was appreciated both by his teachers and his fellow pupils. He began his formal art education at Northwest Missouri State in Marysville, Missouri. Mark made a decision to become a monk at age 21, and his spiritual order nurtured his artistic talent for the next 18 years. He was lucky to be was given several opportunities for worldwide travel and advanced study while devoting many hours a day to painting. Missman studied at a private academy in Florence, Italy, after which he returned to the United States where he was offered a full scholarship to study at New York Academy of Art. However, after meeting master sculptor Frudakis Angelo, he chose to study in Philadelphia at the Frudakis Academy of Classic Realism. His studies continued to Pennsylvania at the Barnstone Studios, before he became the Art Director at the Palace of Gold in Wheeling. His art became the subject of many articles in publications such as the Time Magazine and Washington Post.
