Casey Matthews’ current body of work is first and foremost mixed-media abstract painting. She explores a constant discourse between non-objective and intuitive. Her intention is to create layers of information through a technique that employs layers of media. A native of San Antonio, Texas, she gathers inspiration from life, which she then translates it into her terms. Casey has considered the Southeast her home for more than twenty years. Her work combines observation, emotional content, technique, reinvention, and exploration. It is a form of contradiction and vague communication. She has been painting professionally since 1998. It is her intention to create rich surfaces that are visually intriguing with organic shapes and expressive colors, leading the eye of the mind on a beautiful journey throughout the emotional process of destruction and transformation. Casey studied Art and Art History at the University of Alabama and Texas Christian University. She approaches her subjects with light-hearted enthusiasm and she delivers them with singular style and verve. She’s had several art exhibitions in several places including Shain Gallery, Charlotte, Jules Place, Boston MA, Wally Workman Gallery, Austin, TX, Stellers Gallery, Ponte Vedra, Gallery Orange, New Orleans, LA, Gregg Irby Gallery, Atlanta, GA, Lyssa Morgan Gallery, Tampa, FL, Parallax Art Fair, New York, Fogle Gallery, Jacksonville, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville, Columbus Museum Invitational, Columbus, among others. These exhibitions have made framed Casey Matthews art to be very popular. Her painting process is a combination of medium, charcoal, tissue, layered acrylic paint, oil sticks and handmade paper on canvas.
