TA Marrison was born in Yorkshire. His current work consists first and foremost of paintings created by instinct. He prefers to create paintings intuitively allowing the work to morph gradually and develop naturally into what it wants to become. Marrison begins with a blank canvas and then adds colors and marks instinctively and spontaneously until the canvas is covered. The artist then stands back and spends time staring at the artwork and turning the canvas to see whether a composition has emerged that he can work with. If a composition has emerged, he then carries on with painting - adding and obliterating, editing until he’s happy with what comes out. During this time, he can leave the painting as an abstract work or develop it into a figurative, landscape or still life art. It all depends on what wants to appear or what he sees within the artwork. If after this initial stage nothing appears, he carries on making marks and repeating the process until the art speaks to him. This can often take very long and many layers of paint can go into it, but finally the shift happens. There are instances when he will create paintings using a reference material (photos or sketches) but these instances are becoming increasingly rare as he prefers the impulsive approach to creating art. He currently works from a studio in Derbyshire in an old lace mill and creates original artworks. His work can be found in a number of online galleries and his paintings are also available for purchase directly from some physical art stores in the form of framed TA Marrison art.
