Kevin Schafer (Born 1951) is a professional writer and natural history photographer. His more than 3-decade career has taken him to all the 7 continents and into the company of some of the most extraordinary animals in the world. Having been a writer and natural history photographer for more than 30 years has made him to have a network of many loyal fans who are always on the look out for his new images. He was trained as an ornithologist, and for quite a number of years, he studied seabirds on Farallon Islands in California. He began his career in photography as assistant to Galen Rowell, an author and National Geographic photographer. In 1997, he received the Gerald Durrell award for his photographs of endangered species. The award was from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. In 2007 the North American Nature Photographers Association named him as the Outstanding Nature Photographer of the Year. Since then, Schafer has specialized in documenting the endangered species and also the ecosystems that are threatened around the world, especially in Polar Regions and the tropical rain forest. He’s very committed to aiding conservation efforts and has worked for several years with the World Wildlife Fund. His books include Penguin Planet, Living Light, Costa Rica: Forests of Eden, and Falkland Islands: Between the Wind & Sea. His art is availed in a variety of finishing options, including the ready to hang framed Kevin Schafer art. These are very popular with many collectors because they come with all the accessories.
