Robert Jones is an author and artist who was born in Newquay, Cornwall. He was influenced by the beaches and cliffs in Cornwall which became his childhood playground. Jones was taught by Francis Hewlett and Robert Organ at Falmouth College of Art. After his graduation he got a teaching job, but he continued to paint while teaching in various schools. For the next 7 years he went on a fishing expedition around the Cornish coast. Jones also taught part time at Falmouth and Penzance Colleges of art, which he then had an exhibition at Newlyn Orion Art Gallery. The exhibition was so successful that it encouraged him to concentrate more on painting. He decided to reduce his teaching commitments so as to get time to paint full time. Framed Robert Jones art is today adorning the walls of many galleries around the world. He has exhibited at The Rainyday Gallery, Penzance, Penwith Gallery, St. Ives, Chelsea Art Fair, London, Royal Cornwall Museum, High Street Gallery, Dartmouth, Surrey University, and in many other places. In 1995, Jones began researching the work and life of the artist Alfred Wallis. The product of the research was a book titled “Alfred Wallis Artist and Mariner.” The book was published in 2000. Jones thinks that paintings work on many levels if at all they are any good. For most people, he says that the subject matter may be seen as the most significant factor, but for other several other things come into play – for example the proportion and scale.
