Sara Henry is an artist known for producing pieces of art that can be used to decorate any space. She was born and raised on the west coast of Alaska in a small village along the banks of the Kuskokwim River. This area is surrounded by wide arctic tundra plains; animals and nature were her companion in her childhood. Sara, her 2 sisters, and their dog used to spend their days exploring the land and the wild things that lived and grew there. She knew she would become an artist and focused her energy in achieving this goal. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She uses experimental burnout and casting techniques to create 3D ceramic paintings in the forms of walls, towers, tiles and orbs. While at the university, she discovered exciting and new ways of building multifaceted sculptures using combustible materials, ceramic casting slip, metals and oxides. In her artwork, she arranges ceramic materials, combustibles, and clay inside plaster molds. Ontology, current events, geology and existentialism are her motivations for material choices, techniques and concepts. Sara is interested in the dichotomy between imagination and investigation, the imaginary world and the physical world, the effects of time, and how these places and concepts converge within the gamut of visual art. Her art, especially the framed Sara Henry art are very easy to recognize among the works of other artists.
