Childe Hassam (Born 1859 – Died 1935) was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts. His family descended from the Massachusetts Bay Colony settlers. Hassam is noted for his coastal and urban scenes. He was an American Impressionist painter who was very prolific and versatile. Alongside John Henry Twachtman and Mary Cassatt, he was instrumental in publicizing Impressionism to American dealers, collectors, and museums. He was the most prolific, devoted, and successful practitioner. Hassam produced more than three thousand watercolors, paintings, oils, lithographs, and etchings over the course of his career. He was an inspiring and influential artist of the early twentieth century. He was adept at capturing the charms of country retreats and the excitement of modern cities. This made him to become the foremost raconteur of New York City at the turn of that century. The artist returned to the US late in 1889 and decided to reside and work in New York. Within a short time, he had managed to attract a large number of fans. His signature images include views of New York, Paris, and Boston, the 3 urban centers whose pleasures and places he captured with originality and affection. Hassam frequently depicted burgeoning cities which was unusual among the American Impressionists. He spent long periods in the countryside admiring the beauty and capturing the scenes. Many buyers like the framed Childe Hassam art because they come ready to hang. His many portrayals of the rocky coasts, old-fashioned gardens, and bright sunlight of the Isles of Shoals, are some of his most cherished works.
