Britt Hallowell’s paintings are typically metaphoric in nature with themes such as trees and animals. She attempts to create energy in her pieces through splatter, textures or color. She uses multiple types of plaster in each painting and she layers them over several days. She’s an award winning artist featured in restaurants, galleries, advertising campaigns, and private, corporate and personal collections around the world. She loves working with color and textures because they allow her to create minimalist designs with bold colors that are very intricate and yet simple in their nature. She’s a self-taught artist and that’s how she prefers it. She says that she wanted to learn by herself. She doesn’t want to be constricted by rules, but she’s able to try everything and anything and learn from her own successes and failures. She works from her studio called Britt Hallowell Studios from where she creates unique paintings through a merging of traditional and contemporary styles. She uses a mixture of oil pastels plasters, paints and charcoal to create heavy textures in each of her paintings. Framed Britt Hallowell art is a common feature in many galleries throughout the world. Britt uses multiple tools such as squeegees, palette knives, rags and anything else she can lay her hands on to apply the paint. She calls it controlled chaos as she’s constantly applying and removing layers. Her work is organic in nature, reflecting animals, flowers, and trees in a figurative manner, and occasionally taking on a more realistic look.
