William Guion is a photography artist who's known for his immersive landscape photographs. Boasting of close to 20 years of active experience, he captures the beauty and the quiet spirit of her subjects, revealing mood changes based on color and light. Guion underwent training in journalism and communications and was only introduced to the art of photography during his days in college. It's during the same period that he took self-study in photography and was often involved in West Coast photography workshops back in the 1980’s and 90’s. He had a decade of mentorship engagement with Morley Baer, running until 1995 when Baer died. Guion has made a name for himself through his Oak series that represent the trees found in South Louisiana. To best capture his subjects, he demonstrates a preference of soft diffuse light often found during morning, late afternoon, and misty days. He uses that kind of light to capture the most details, revealing texture and patterns in leaves. Guion’s choice of 4" x 5" is formed by the contemplative approach that it requires and the fact that it provides for the individual development of negatives. He uses light, shadows, and tonal scales to capture and portray their emotional qualities. Besides prints, he has hand colored images all of which he begins with black and white before toning them to produce a brown base pigment, and finally making the final painting using light oil paints. Through that she creates art that represents the true landscapes of Louisiana. His art can be found in collections and high profile galleries. William Guion framed art and other finishing options are available for users to choose from.
