Elissa Gore Art

Elissa Gore (born 1950) is an American artist. She was originally from Philadelphia but now she lives in New York City. Her work is included in over 60 public collections and is often shown nationally. After studying at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Fine Art, she taught college fine art for 20 years and is currently teaching landscape painting at the New York Botanical Garden. She has had 18 solo exhibitions. Her works can be found in New York City at Kathryn Markel Fine Art. In 1975, she decided she wanted to make art about nature. First, she made drawings and sculptures of human anatomy and plants. But soon she discovered the feeling she wanted to express in art could be best expressed by using paintings of the landscape. She tries to surround the viewer with a panoramic view or atmosphere that reflects the transcendent moment she feels. She responds especially to places that include water, earth and air. Her works on canvas and paper are inspired by experiences on her travels to paint on location and to art residencies. Elissa aims to capture the transcendence of natural phenomena in her luminous landscape paintings, including sparkling streams, mist evaporating over hills, sunlight setting foliage aflame, and many more. Throughout her career, she has been drawn to the play of light on land and water and across the sky, and to nature at its most serene.
