Artist Toni Frissell (Born in 1907) was born in New York City. She was an American photographer, known for her World War II photographs, fashion photography, and portraits of famous Europeans and Americans, women and children, from all walks of life. Her first photographs were published in Town & Country in 1931. After that, she began working for Vogue for the next 11 years; from 1931 to 1942. She took on general assignments and covered the fashion pages for the magazine. She was advised by Edward Steichen and was mentored by Mr. Conde Nast. She later apprenticed with Cecil Beaton. Toni preferred to use natural light and setting rather than the studio lights. She earned a reputation for her documentary, fashion, and sports images that appeared in leading magazines. In 1932 she married Francis McNeill and a year later they had a son whom they named Varick, they had a second child in 1935; a daughter whom they named Sidney. During the Second World War, Toni became the official photographer for Red Cross in Scotland, England and the United States. From 1941 she worked for Harper's Bazaar until 1950. In 1944, she illustrated and published a version of “A Child's Garden of Verses” by Robert Lewis Stevenson's; the illustrations were photographs of her children as they were growing up. Based on her trip to Bermuda in 1946, she also published “The Happy Island.” She also produces art as framed Toni Frissell art which can be used to decorate any space. In 1953, Toni began working for Sports Illustrated and was invited to photograph Sir Winston Churchill.
