Artist Cape Edwin (Born in 1968) was born in Tucson, Arizona. He attended college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff where he received a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts. While still studying he used to work at a local resort in Sedona where he got inspired by the red rock mountains hiking in the surrounding areas. Many of these natural colors have found their way into his paintings today. He lived in southern Arizona with his family until he graduated from college. After his graduation, he moved to Portland, Oregon where he live for several years, but later decided to return to Sedona where he felt he was most inspired to paint. Edwin’s talent has lent inspiration, influence, and color to his calling as an artist. He paints mostly abstracts in acrylics. Edwin finds creative inspiration all around him: in magazines, art museums and books, the color palettes of nature – especially the red rock mountains, and art galleries. He uses a high gloss finish to bring out the rich texture and colors that make his paintings so popular. He remembers every red rock that he has used to inspire his color and imagery in each of his paintings - though his paintings are not composed of obvious “Southwest” images. Today, ready to hang framed Cape Edwin art are highly priced by many discerning artists, and they are found in many collections all over the world. Edwin prefers to work with acrylic paints because of their transparent layering qualities and depth, and because they dry quickly.
