Albrecht Durer (Born May 21, 1471 - 1528) was a German artist who's known for his high quality graphics, paintings, and drawings. He moved to Italy in 1494, staying for only one year. The short period in Italy was quite influential in his life and art, appearing clearly in his artwork. The influences were more evident in his paintings and drawings than his graphics.
He's widely respected as a multitalented artist who's considered a mathematician, theorist, painter, and printmaker. Durer reputation grew widely over time as a result of his woodcuts, nowadays referred to as Meisterstiche. These kind of artwork pieces saw his reputation grow all over Europe. Besides the woodcuts, he also created several other works, including portraits, alterpieces, copper engravings, among others.
Some of the greatest works that he created include Knight, Devil, and Death. He's also among the initial artists to create European landscape art. Durer’s network and friends allowed him to strengthen his artistic works and become among the topmost Northern Renaissance art makers.
He quit autobiographical writings and after a couple of years of schooling, he went into goldsmithing and started learning the fundamentals while also being influenced by his father's works.
It's during that time that he started being drawn into drawing and showing great talent, though his father wanted him to focus on goldsmithing. Because of his insistence and focus on creating art, he started working with Michael Wolgemut as an apprentice in 1486 when he was 15 years old.
After working as an apprentice, he proceeded to work with several other artists while also learning new skills.
Years after he passed on, his artistic works still continue to sell, with several Albrecht Durer framed art pieces available widely through galleries.
