Marcello Dudovich (March 21, 1878 – March 31, 1962) was a multitalented Italian artist known for his numerous paintings, poster designs, and illustrations. He ranks high among the first people to define Italian poster design through his highly creative works. Dudovich was born in Trieste, but he moved to Milan in 1897 after he completed his training in a professional art institution. While there, he got a job with Ricordi, a music publisher, and got a position as an ads designer with cartoonist Leopoldo Metlicovitz. Later in 1899, he moved to Bologna where he worked for Edmondo Chappuis, a publisher, where he designed book covers, billboards, and more, creating such artwork pieces for diverse publications, including Fantasio (1902) and Italia Ride (1900). He would later move to Milan in 1905 and joined Ricordi and in later years created his famous posters such as "Mele di Napoli" and "Borsalino." Dudovich did several posters in the 1920s and then in 1930 he did a great poster for Pirelli. He continued creating commercial art but would later switch to own art after World War II. He remains one of the most celebrated poster artists of Italy. Although he was inspired by other artists such as Alphonse Mucha, Adolfo Hohenstein, and Edward Penfield, he finally developed his own artistic style that he used to deliver his works. His many creative works still sell across the globe and are found in galleries and diverse collections globally. There are several galleries that sell framed Marcello Dudovich art ready for the wall.
