Alexandre Descubes was an Artist and cartographer - a botanical artist who was known for his watercolor botanical drawings. Not much is not about him, except for the fact that he was a talented artist. About 2500 of his original watercolor botanical drawings are held by Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (LGBG). He’s considered to be one of the best artists of his time, and framed Alexandre Descubes art is usually highly priced by many collectors. They are mainly used in academic institutions – though they are also great for decorative purposes. Descubes loved art since his childhood and he could no think of any other career apart from art. He strived to capture more than just what could be seen, but also the emotional effect and tiny details of his subjects. His keenness to detail earned his respect from his pees and acclaim from his clients. The images he produced were very realistic; in fact they could be mistaken for photos. In the course of his work, he produced innumerable pieces of art which today adorn the walls of many homes, galleries and art museums. The artist is known for his botanical drawings that reveal his completely personal view of his subject matter. He has received much acclaim for his art that threw him to the limelight. Evidence show hat botanical art classes were regularly conducted using his collection, but no further progress was made in discovering his background until late 2003. That was when a Garden board member noticed his botanical watercolors in a gallery window in California.
