Artist Kellie Day grew up in the Midwest’s industrial towns. His mother is also an artist while his dad built coal-fired power plants. He liked the towns because of their authenticity – the people are hardworking and real. Day went to college in Indiana from where he graduated with a BA in Advertising and a minor in Art. After his graduation, he was employed as a graphic designer in Joliet IL for a fiberglass manufacturing company. That’s all it took to send him straight out west for fifteen years of ravenous climbing, fire fighting, traveling and wilderness rangering. He travelled to California, Arizona, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, and many of third world countries. He finally decided to stop in Ridgway, Colorado, where he now runs a painting and graphic design studio, and raise his 9-year-old son. Day’s art and life experience has inspired many artists and commercial illustrators. In between his travels, he came up with many graphic design projects through brainstorming. His main goal is to spread beauty and to inspire. His artistic medium is mixed media on canvas. The artist likes the way images mix with words, and often adds chocolate wrappers, and torn pages of books, Chinese take-out containers, etc to his paintings. He adds anything that can make his art to be attractive to his viewers. Day is an experiential artist, meaning, he usually develops a relationship with his subjects before painting them. Framed Kellie Day art usually come ready to hang with all the required accessories. He hopes that his art will always bring joy to those who buy them.
