Born and brought up in San Diego, CA, Norm Daniels is an island and surf-themed illustrator and artist with a fun and unique impressionistic style. He works primarily with oil on canvas. In college Daniels studied Architecture and after graduation, he designed many custom homes in the San Diego area for several years. In 1989 he moved with his family to the High Sierras, and became an architect and artist for Hume Lake Christian Camps. He also took up painting and sailing to quench his longing for water and surf while stranded in the mountains. Many of his paintings were a result of that longing. Daniels says that he has been told that paintings from a tormented soul sell better. After staying in High Sierras for six years, he decided to return to San Diego and after suffering a series of strokes, he decided to quit his day job and now Daniels is enjoying the opportunity to practice his passion and artwork on a full-time basis and in the settings and city he loves. His love of “plein air” painting has taken him around the world, and he has managed to create scenes from the beauty of The Islands to San Diego county landmarks. He has long since painted past moments of renowned big wave friend and surfer, Noll Greg and his fun illustrations and cartoons give nod to his great sense of whimsy and humor. Many of those cartoons have been featured in Surfer Magazine and illustrations of several children's books. Today, framed Norm Daniels art is a common feature in many homes.
