Dan Barr started to take photography seriously sometime in 2008 after he purchased his first DSLR, it became an absolute passion for him, however he doesn’t think it was until 2010-11 when his photography began to really improve and to think photography could be something more than a hobby. He’s primarily a self taught photographer who’s based in San Diego California and he likes camping, backpacking or hiking. He’s still in the process of making a full transition to photography, and he hopes to move from photography as part time endeavor to a full time career as soon as he can. He says that one of the hurdles he faces in moving to photography as a profession from photography as a hobby is building a business around his artwork. The business angle still mystifies him. That notwithstanding, he’s been able to produce high quality images that has earned him a place at Stocktrek Images, a leading stock photo agency that deals with only high quality and professionally produced images. Even the framed Dan Barr art are selling in large numbers and are highly priced by many discerning collectors. Early on, he never had much interest in photography. But with the advent of digital cameras, everything changed. He bought his first digital camera in 2005 (point and shoot camera) while he was living in New York state and working on his graduate degree. He holds a bachelors degree in Biology/Anthropology and a PhD in cell biology. However, he’s not practicing this profession today.
