Marc Zakharovich Chagall (6 July [O.S. 24 June] 1887 – 28 March 1985) was an illustrator and painter. He was a modernist although he practiced several other artistic styles. Besides combining several different artistic styles, he was also using diverse mediums, capturing art prints, paintings, illustrations, stained glass, and more.
Chagall became among the leading modernist artists, an ability that saw him commissioned by the UN to create windows for them. He also created windows for different cathedrals, including Metz and Reims. Chagall became a prominent part of the "golden age" of modernism while he was living in Paris. It's during the same period that he became a strong part of the development of Cubism, Fauvism, and Symbolism.
Chagall was born in Liozna to a family of Jews. Being of Jewish background, he wasn't entitled to attending Russian normal schools. In addition, the movement of the Jews around the city was strictly controlled by Russian authorities. After completing his primary, he managed to find his way to a formal Russian high school. It's at the school where he got interested in art after seeing a child draw. After that he started copying pictures from books and things were working out so well that he decided to pursue art fully.
It’s in 1910 that he moved to Paris to build his art. Although it was only Cubism that dominated the France art scene, Chagall came with a totally different artistic background from Russia, with a deep understanding of color, poetic painting, and a little bit of humor. It’s because of the uniqueness of his art that he received recognition from fellow artists and his name grew. His art are still selling to this date with several Marc Zakharovich Chagall framed art availed for art lovers.
