Marc Catesby (Born in 1679) was born in England. He loved art at a very tender age and could spend most of his free time doing artwork or admiring the works of other artists. At the age of 33, he left his home country to study flora and fauna in America and he remained in America for the seven years that followed returning to England in 1726. While in England he engraved the plates of his work titled The Natural History of the Bahama Islands, Florida and Carolina, which was illustrated with plates of animals, birds, fish and plants. He prided himself on reputation and integrity. This is something that helped him build his clientele with high regards of gaining the comfort and trust for whoever he was working for which in turn encouraged the creative direction of his artwork. The huge success of his work made him to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. His art was not only about capturing the intended image, but more importantly it was about creating the subjects that viewers could associate with, combining a hint of imagination, inspiration of art and a vibrant display of color. He aimed at painting pretty pictures that made people happy. Catesby just felt touched when someone stopped and wanted to buy a product with his art on it and have it in their home. He believed that he shared part of himself in every painting he did, and the fact that someone could respond to it was very humbling. Many have purchased framed Marc Catesby art which today hang on their walls.
