Manuel Castro (Born 1945) was born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. He loved art from his childhood and had a dream of becoming a professional artist at one time in the future. He never had any formal training in art and is primarily a self-taught artist. Loving art from a young age gave him the opportunity to interact with many professional artists from whom he learnt a lot. Today he’s a professional artist who paints scenes of Portuguese traditional labour activities and rural life with great detail. He’s greatly inspired by his childhood and the Portuguese lifestyle. His CV includes more than 30 honorable mentions and distinctions. Castro does not fear to paint. He takes even the most complicated projects that his fellow artists can shy away from. His work his held at the “Portuguese Foundation for Communication”, Lisbon, Portugal, the “Arte Naive Museum” in Lousã, Portugal, the “Art Naive International Museum, Jaén”, Spain, the “Cultures and Evangelization Foundation”, and at the “Information Cultural Centre for Azeite (Olive Oil)” in Lisbon, Portugal. His art is also held in many other public and private collections throughout Europe. Castro does not ignore small details that are easily ignored by other artists. He loves what he does and his pieces of artwork are able to speak for themselves, and they attract clients not only from Portugal and Europe, but also from around the world. That’s what has made framed Manuel Castro art to be very popular. From 1987 he has been participating in several collective exhibitions in several countries, namely, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and the United States of America. In 2006, he held a solo exhibition in Estremoz, Portugal at the "Monte Seis Reis Art Gallery.”
