William Buffett (Born in 1935) was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. He moved to Los Angeles at the age of five. Buffett is a graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Southern California. After graduation he decided to practice portraiture because he discovered that his temperament was unfit for commercial art. To supplement his schooling and improve his art, he decided to look at the art collections that were found in the United States’ museums. In order to do it in large scale, he converted an old van into a motor home. He also set out to see as many museums as he could. Buffett relocated to New Orleans, one of his stop-off points of his trip, there was music there and portraiture art was in high demand in the South. While at an outdoor exhibit showing examples of his portraits, Buffett met a couple who wanted a portrait. The couple was from Jackson, Mississippi and they had to get back home. The couple offered to take Buffett with them and was sure he would find more work when he arrived. The artist agreed, and he found that there was such a market that he decided to make regular visits there. Buffett also found himself living New York City, in St. Louis, Zurich, Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Santa Barbara where he got married. While in Santa Barbara, he began producing limited edition serigraphs. Framed William Buffett art are very easy to identify because of the unique style he uses to produce them.
