Framed Blackwell Prints

Gary Blackwell currently teaches figure drawing and landscape painting as well as gives demonstrations and attends a number of juried plein-air events. He studied at Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida from where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Just recently he returned from a vacation in the south of Tuscany. He says it was a little slice of heaven, as one might expect. His home base was a working farm having lots of areas to explore and some wonderful accommodations. He promises that he’ll definitely be returning to this place to enjoy and to paint. He paints the things that he experiences and finds to be visually interesting. He believes that painting is actually a discovery of the poetry of these abstract elements and how they are related. In the 1990's, he became involved with pastels and the artist joined many of pastel organizations. In general, he’s a pleinair painter who works in both pastels and oil. Blackwell worked as a Creative Director in advertising for more than 20 years for a large corporation. He soon became a member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast. The artist counts himself to have been lucky. He’s always known from an early age that he would be a visual artist. Subject matter certainly plays an important part of why he paints but secretly, her art is more about the elements that are abstract such as shapes and values, verticals and horizontals, color, light and composition.
