The artwork of Gigi Begin is created in collaboration with John Begin, her husband and business partner. John is a designer of fine art furniture and a woodworker who collects and re-models the old wood boards to become the canvases for Gigi’s paintings., barn boards, Old post-and-beams scraps from the process of lumber milling or an old door might also find their way into her art as her husband seeks out pieces with just the right amount of tool marks, cracks, stains, checks, knots, and heft to bring warmth and charm to the finished piece. She lives in Cambridge, New York, and draws inspiration for her paintings from life in her tranquil village as well as the surrounding landscape. Gigi begins to paint directly on the board, and allows the natural beauty of the wood to shine through. Each piece by Gigi is original, and she signs and dates them by herself. Many of her pieces are also available as fine art prints, framed Gigi Begin art. She pays careful attention to maintaining the veracity of the only one of its kind artistry of her original paintings. Gigi honed her artistic skills with a decade in the modern fashion world of NYC, but now she prefers to draw the living world rather than fashionable, expensive clothes produced by top fashion houses. Though the botanicals, vegetables and animals she paints are filled with realism and detail, it’s the idea she’s after. The paintings that Gigi Begin creates are views of rural America that are romanticized, inspired by the school of American Illustration.
