Barbara Applegate is an artist who was born in Pennsylvania. She’s a graduate of Dickinson College. After graduation she moved to the Brandywine Valley where she plunged in the rich tradition of realism. She works in egg tempera, watercolor and oil, and for the next decade she spent her time painting the beautiful Quaker homesteads of the 18th century and the quiet rolling landscape. By the mid 1990, Philadelphia had nearly obliterated due to the suburban sprawl surrounding it’s the tranquil Pennsylvania landscape. Barbara spent several summers in Maine where she was looking for new inspiration. She was drawn to the wood-frame houses of quiet villages with their kitchen gardens. Barbara permanently relocated to Penobscot Bay in 1996, and she now maintains her gallery/studio in the striking village of Bristol Mills found on the Pemaquid Peninsula. She has received many awards for her oil and watercolor paintings which include awards for and merit from the Knickerbocker Artists, NYC; National Arts Club, NYC; Philadelphia Watercolor Club; Salmagundi Club, NYC; and San Diego Watercolor Club. He received a Gold Medal from the American Artist Professional League, New York City. Many years later, she has been honored by many national awards, and this has made her never to look back.  As the demand for Barbara Applegate art increases, she continues to devote much of her time in producing art. Many of Barbara’s collectors are students and painters at various stages of their artistic journey. She’s a juror of both local and national art exhibitions.
