Framed Great Wave of Kanagawa Prints
“The Great Wave of Kanagawa” or also knows as “The Wave” is a print made on wood by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. This image was the first one of the thirty six images in the series that were depicting Mount Fuji, which is the highest mountain in Japan and is considered as sacred place for a long time.
This print was made in the ukiyo-e art style and was published around 1830, so it could later become one of the famous works of art in the world, owned by many famous art collectors and museums. Framed Great Wave of Kanagawa art print is a very popular image today, as it was in the past, while being an inspirational sight for many European artists and art lovers.
The image shows a big wave coming over the three boats in the Japanese Kanagawa region. The wave is represented as a rogue wave coming from the open sea with the Mount Fuji peeking out in the background. The symbolic message of framed Great Wave art puts Mount Fuji in the distant perspective seeming that it will too be covered by the massive wave, together with the boats.
Interesting thing is that this print was made in the time when Japanese trade was very bad, but that didn’t stop it from becoming a great inspiration for many artist in 19th century Europe. Any person that is impressed by Japanese art styles will definitely find framed Wave art prints as a great decoration choice for its personal home space.
