Framed Skull Art
The bony structure in the head of vertebrates is the one that accommodates the brain and protects it from harm. While being of tremendous importance in medical science, it has always served as a powerful symbol, usually with negative connotations. FramedArt.com has assembled a comprehensive collection of Framed Skull Art dedicated to the most representative paintings, drawings and sculptures ever created.
Those who study medical science and are intimately familiar with the structure of the skull, will probably appreciate the Framed Skull Art for the accurate depiction, rather than aesthetic value. There are skull diagrams that take a scientific approach to the entire topic and these art prints would look great on the walls of professionals. While they look great and have certain educational value, the very nature of the subject they showcase, makes them less appropriate for casual rooms.
Over the course of time, artists have frequently associated skulls with the idea of death and decay, and used the image to ornate mortuary rooms. At the same time, they served the purpose of raising existential questions, while inviting the ones admiring the images to reflect on their own mortality. Philippe de Champagne’s Vanitas Still Life with a Tulip brilliantly succeed at capturing the very essence of the idea projected by skulls. The inspired association of the bony structure, a flower and an hourglass invites the audience to think about the inexorable passing of time and the inevitability of death.
